NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Several people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a Hampton Roads Transit bus and a Norfolk Public School bus crashed into each other. The school bus did not have any children on board at the time.

Norfolk Police say the accident happened around 2:30 at North Military Highway and Norview Avenue. Based on a preliminary investigation, police say both vehicles were traveling north on Military Highway when the school bus rear-ended the HRT bus.

Five adults on board the HRT bus were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. All five people were awake and alert when police arrived.

The school bus driver was not hurt. The school bus was on its way to pick up students at the Academy of International Studies at Rosemont at the time of the crash.

The Norfolk Public School bus driver has been cited for following too closely.
