PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) - One person was killed late Saturday afternoon in Portsmouth when they crashed while operating a motorcycle.

According to a department spokesperson, this happened at around 5:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Hancock Ave., at the intersection with Tazewell Street.

57-year-old Clay Phillips was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined Phillips lost control of his motorcycle and struck a utility pole.

No other vehicles were involved.
