PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- A man who had barricaded himself inside a Portsmouth home was taken into custody without incident on Friday afternoon.
Police received the call just after 2 p.m. and responded to the residence on Channing Avenue, between Cushing Street and Prospect Parkway.
Nearby James Hurst Elementary School was placed on lockdown for about 45 minutes, and a robocall was sent out to parents informing them of the situation. The school later went into a modified lockdown, and the school began organizing students for bus dismissal.
The man was taken into custody shortly after 4 p.m. No other information was immediately available.
