SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Children who typically would not have access to nutritious meals during the summer will be able to enjoy them for free through Suffolk Parks & Recreation.
The department is participating in the Summer Food Service Program, made possible through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Any child whose family meets the income guidelines for reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program can receive free meals during the summer.
Children who are part of households that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly foods stamps) benefits or benefits under the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) are automatically eligible to receive free meals.
