SUFFOLK, Va. — Suffolk police and firefighters were called to a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency Communications was contacted around noon of two vehicles involved in a crash in the 5200 block of Bennetts Pasture Road. On the scene, officers found the two cars left the roadway, one went into a ditch and the other overturned and hit a utility pole.

The crash caused the utility pole to snap, and it started a transformer fire.

The driver of the overturned car was able to get himself out, and he denied medical treatment. The woman in the second car was treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers had to wait for Dominion Energy crews to arrive on scene because live electrical wires were in the area. A small brush fire also needed to be put out due to the transformer fire.

Dominion said there were minimal power outages.

Bennetts Pasture Road between Sleepy Hole Road and Lee Farm Lane is anticipated to remain closed for at least four hours as crews from Dominion Power work to replace the damaged power pole and transformer.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
