One dead, one injured in single-vehicle crash in Suffolk

When emergency units arrived on scene, they found that an SUV had overturned and the driver was ejected from the vehicle in the crash.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) - One person was killed and another seriously injured in an accident in Suffolk that happened Sunday afternoon.

According to a police spokesperson, this happened at around 4 p.m. in the 5000 block of Holland Road/Route 58.

When emergency units arrived on scene, they found that an SUV had overturned and the driver was ejected from the vehicle in the crash. The driver, 29-year-old Sheaquan Jemel Darden, was pronounced dead on the scene.

An adult female passenger in the SUV was initially treated on the scene and then airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries described as serious but non-life threatening.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call them at 923-2350, option 0.
