VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- There is a new hurdle for the developer of a proposed new attraction at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

The Resort Advisory Commission -- which makes recommendations to city council about all the Oceanfront projects -- wants an independent study of the economic impact of the pier project.

The newly proposed pier would replace the existing one on 15th Street. As we previously reported, there has already been some pushback on pier plans by residents in the city. People want to know how the process has been handled in selecting a developer.

Councilman John Moss and Bobby Dyer supported a review of that bidding process, but council voted it down.

City council's next meeting is Tuesday night. As of right now, discussing the pier is not on the agenda.
