VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Some hotels in Virginia Beach say they've seen a lot of cancelations ahead of Hurricane Matthew. Guests tell hotels and motels they aren't wanting to travel to the area due to safety concerns.
"Unfortunately due to these serious weather conditions, a lot of our expected guests have canceled their reservations," said Lauren Moubray from the Dolphin Inn.
"We are constantly being updated by the Virginia Beach Hotel Association and making sure our current guests are aware of the conditions. Our employees are answering any questions, all if possible on the weather forecast for the weekend," she added.
Clifton Wedekind and his wife Marie are visiting from New York. They're some of the select tourists who decided not to cancel vacation.
"The waves, sand gust coming in your eyes, you can't even walk down that boardwalk," he said.
The couple is rethinking their next stop: the Outer Banks. "I mean, just gonna make the best of it. If we can't go there, we'll head over to the Blue Ridge Mountains or somewhere it's safe, you know?" said Clifton.
