VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Police say one person was seriously injured following a Tuesday afternoon crash that involved five cars.

Officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Indian River Rd. just after 2 p.m. to respond to a call about an accident with injuries.

They arrived at the scene to find that five vehicles were involved in the crash.

The Virginia Beach Fire Dept. had to extract a person from one of the cars, who was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Indian River Rd. between North Landing and Clark Drive is closed at this time.

No other details are available right now, but the crash is under investigation.
