VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Two persons of interest are in custody following a bank robbery in Virginia Beach on Friday afternoon.
Police say that just before 6 p.m., a man entered the PNC bank located at 2422 Princess Anne Road, armed with a handgun and holding a suspicious device. The suspect fired a shot into the ceiling and demanded money.
Then as the suspect left the building, he dropped the suspicious device onto the ground. Members of the Virginia Beach Bomb Squad later determined the object was not a threat.
No one was hurt.
Moments after the suspect fled the scene, responding officers spotted the suspect vehicle and were able to stop it near Round Hill Drive and Elbow Road. Two persons of interest inside the vehicle are in custody, and speaking with investigators. No word on any charges at this time.
Elbow Road was closed between Round Hill Drive and Indian River Road as the bomb squad made sure nothing dangerous was inside the vehicle. The road has since reopened to all traffic.
