VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- People will be able to enjoy a doughnut and help homeless veterans Saturday as the Krispy Kreme at 4901 Virginia Beach Boulevard reopens.

The location closed late last year for remodeling.

Krispy Kreme said that if it has 1,000 patrons this weekend, it will make a donation to VetsHouse Inc., a non-profit group in Virginia Beach that helps homeless veterans in Hampton Roads.

Since 1992, VetsHouse has assisted more than 700 veterans; 71 percent have successfully completed the 12-month program.

The first 250 guests at the store on Saturday will receive a free mug.

The store officially reopened at 6 a.m.
