VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A bear sighting in Virginia Beach prompted Animal Control officials to give residents a warning whenever they spot the furry creatures roaming around their neighborhoods.

Video that surfaced on the Virginia Beach Animal Control's Facebook page garnered more than 300 shares and 9,000 views after locals recorded a bear crossing the street at Indian River Rd. and West Neck Rd.

Virginia Beach Animal Control wrote that it happened at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and that the bear crossed over into the Eagle's Nest neighborhood.

The organization posted a warning saying that bears are completely harmless in most cases, but to maintain a safe distance from them for safety purposes.
