VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., (WVEC) -- One group is making sure military moms have all the help they need.

On Thursday morning, Operation Homefront and Lincoln Military Housing threw a giant baby shower for dozens of expecting and new military moms.

It's called Star Spangled Babies Shower. The shower isn't only about receiving gifts, but connecting with fellow military families.

"We always have this perception that the military just takes care of everything, and we don't need to step in and help, but truly military families are just like you and I. And they have challenges just like you and I," Shannon Stinson, with Operation Homefront, said.

Buying items for babies adds up.

Sarai Pagan and her husband are expecting number seven.

"We had given everything away, so for us to re-start all over and for this to come, it's been a godsend," she said.

Stinson said moms get to go home with some fun things: hand-made blankets, stuffed animals and a Baby Einstein play activity table.

We asked moms what advice they have for fellow military moms.

"Hookup with other military moms and really make the most of it. Take advantage of all the programs they offer for us," Alonna Holloway, who is expecting her second child, said.

"Don't be afraid to ask people for help because we are a family," Pagan said.

Operation Homefront tells 13NewsNow they plan on hosting another shower on the Peninsula.

Stinson said to check their Facebook page for updates.
