DARE COUNTY, NC, (WVEC) -- Dare County Public Schools announced they will be closed Friday, March 2 due to anticipated high winds and a risk of flooding, the school district announced Thursday.

"Over the next few days, this storm has the potential to damage property and flood neighborhoods and roads, especially those on Hatteras Island," said Emergency Management Director Drew Pearson.

DCPS said Friday will instead be an optional teacher workday for staff.
