SOUTHERN SHORES, N.C. (WVEC) -- The Southern Shores Police Department committed their time to helping their fellow officers impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Texas by collecting donations from citizens in the Outer Banks.

In less than two weeks, the department was able to fill a trailer and a Chevrolet Tahoe with items donated by the community.

The collection was dropped off at a location in Rocky Mount, N.C. and will be sent to Houston, Texas.

"I was so humbled by the tremendous support and donations from our community here on the Outer Banks," Chief of Police David M. Kole said.

Some of the items donated included diapers, clothes and shoes.
