WILLOW SPRING, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina state troopers have accused a man of driving at more than 100 mph (44 km/h) while under the influence of methamphetamine with two children inside the car.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper was investigating a report of a stolen car when a 2006 Lincoln sped away, then crashed into a gate. Records indicate speeds during the chase reached "in excess of 100 mph."
Authorities say 36-year-old Dustin Fred Tanner Jr. was charged with driving under the influence of an impairing substance, fleeing to elude police and misdemeanor child abuse.
Troopers said Tanner is the uncle of the two children in the car.
Tanner is jailed in lieu of $30,000 bail. Online records don't say if he has an attorney.
