VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- There is a “Rockin’ Granny” that’s gaining popularity nationwide, receiving decorative painted rocks on a daily basis.

Marjory Miles, 94, is running out of room on her coffee table to put all the rocks, there are dozens.

“Even though I’m old it makes me feel like somebody cares about me,” said Miles.

Miles suffers from dementia so in order to cheer her up her granddaughter, Gayle Kennedy, painted a rock for her a few weeks ago.

“Everywhere we go granny carries the rock with her,” said Kennedy.

One social media post later and people have started leaving painted rocks on Miles’ porch, and ‘Rockin’ Granny’ was born.

“I think we got 750 some likes right away, I started getting messages, 'can I bring a rock,'" said Kennedy.

Now people are sending rocks from all over the country.

“Any place in America is wonderful,” said Miles.

The art varies from dogs, to palm trees, to emojis. Miles’ favorite is the light house.

The family says granny’s whole attitude has changed. She has something to look forward to every day.

“For just a few minutes she can find joy and happiness and that’s what it’s all about,” said Kennedy.
