NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A business was robbed and the clerk was injured on Sunday.

At approximately 5:20 p.m. officers responded to the 2001 25th Street at the Green City Supermarket.

Police were alerted to a robbery of the business.

As units were responding, the call was updated and the 56-year-old clerk was injured, at the time believed to be shot.

Upon arrival police spoke to the clerk who was suffering from non-life threatening wounds. After being evaluated at the hospital it was determined the clerk was struck by debris from where the bullet(s) struck the floor and other items in the store.

Two suspects entered the business and demanded money. A physical altercation occurred and both suspects fired several shots which caused the clerk to be injured.

The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money from the store.

Police described one suspect to be in his late 20s to early 30s with a slim build. The first suspect was wearing a yellow shirt, blue jeans and a black scarf around his face.

The second suspect was described to be in his mid-30s and had a thick build while wearing a red shirt, dark blue jeans and a black ski mask.
