HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WVEC) -- Thousands were without power across three cities in Southside Hampton Roads.

Around 8:30 a.m., Dominion Virginia Power's outage map showed 2,850 customers were without power in Portsmouth and another 859 were without power in Suffolk. Both incidents have been attributed to a circuit outage.

Another 523 customers were without power in the area of Windy Road and Shady Road in Chesapeake. According to Dominion Power, the cause of the outage is under investigation.

Limbs falling on power lines was the cause of some of the outages, a Dominion Virginia Power spokesperson said. The largest outage, in Portsmouth, has affected Douglass Park Elementary School.

Power has since been restored.
