VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Search dogs and their handlers took part in training that would prepare them for real-world scenarios, Wednesday.

The various canines came from 17 states, including California, Oregon, and Washington.

The national training event was hosted by Superfit Canine.

The dogs participated in drills that offered real-world situations such as trying to find "live-victims" under huge piles of concrete rubble and wrecked cars.

The canine's handlers also participated in training, learning how to care for the search dogs after they have been injured while working the scene of a disaster, or conducting search and rescue operations.
