Snow in March? Yes, but Hampton Roads has had snowfalls even later than that.

We started wondering how late in the year (when you head from winter into spring) the area has had measurable snowfall. We found out.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Although spring is here, winter, it seems just won't go away.

It may be March, but another storm system is expected to bring snow to the Hampton Roads area again, and that had us asking: "What are the latest dates (winter into spring) that the area has had snow?"

Here are the five latest (with the latest date at 1) that brought a measurable snowfall:

  1. April 13, 1940 (1.3”)
  2. April 11, 1989 (.5”)
  3. April 7, 2007 (.1”)
  4. April 1, 1964 (1.2”)
  5. March 30, 1941 (1.0”)
