NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Strong winds prompted early school closures as well as traffic delays Friday. Some residents even experienced power outages throughout the area.

As of 5 p.m. the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel is currently closed to all traffic.

Wind gusts also caused the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to suspend service at the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry.

The Virginia Beach Landfill and Resource Recovery Center is also closed due to high winds. It will remain closed for the rest of Friday.

Virginia Beach City Public Schools canceled all outdoor events and activities for Friday afternoon and evening. All indoor activities will take place as scheduled.

The City of Chesapeake said high winds are causing delays in trash collection, and that crews will be out to collect on Saturday and Monday, if needed.

Dominion Energy was also reporting power outages across the state on Friday.
