NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A man who is charged in connection with an officer-involved shooting is now facing charges for an unrelated crime.
Darone Owens, 18, has been charged for his role in a robbery that happened mid-October.
Police responded to a call in the 800 block of Dusk Court on Oct. 12 around 1:54 a.m. for a robbery.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with two victims who stated they had been robbed after they were questioned about their knowledge of a woman who lived in the apartment complex.
The first victim told police his debit card was stolen and then he was forced into a car by one of the suspects. He eventually was able to exit the vehicle and laid on the ground.
The second victim was able to call police when the suspect began firing shots in his direction, just missing him.
Owens was later identified as one of the suspects.
He is charged with abduction, two counts robbery, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of firearm by felon and two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.
Owens was served his warrants while he was being held in Hampton for the officer-involved shooting.
Authorities say Owens was spotted in a Ford pickup truck that was later identified as stolen from Chesapeake.
As police attempted to pull the vehicle over, one of the occupants pointed a gun at one of the officers.
The vehicle Owens was in then drove toward both officers, striking the police car.
Owens is charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of a concealed weapon and one count of grand larceny relating to that incident.
