VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) --- The sound of a buzzer echoes through the halls of John B. Dey Elementary School in Virginia Beach Wednesday.
It’s the school’s first annual Turkey Bowl, pitting students against teachers in a flag football game before the Thanksgiving break.
The game was supposed to be played outdoors, but wet weather forced the crowd inside the school’s gym.
It was a day for teacher’s to show students they can be athletes too.
“We want to show them who is boss,” 5th grade teacher Nicole Prater joked.
“It’s different to play against your teachers,” said 5th grader Aiden Dougherty. “To see how good they are.”
In the spirit of giving, the teachers had no problem handing out touchdown after touchdown. They didn't go easy on the kids, but it was all in good fun.
“No mercy today,” said Prater.
