VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Local law enforcement ran 4.5 miles to pass the Torch of Hope for Special Olympics Virginia Wednesday.
Over 50 runners from the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office and police department came out to escort the flame through Hampton Roads.
The torch was handed off to the Norfolk Sheriff's Office and police department.
The Torch Run raises money for Special Olympics and kicks off the Summer Games in Richmond.
The race spans statewide over eight days and involves more than 2,000 law enforcement officers and over 200 agencies.
The torch is carried 1,900 miles.
