After school shooting threat, Tangier teen in custody

TANGIER ISLAND, Va. (Delmarva Now) -- A teen who police say made threats to shoot up the school on Tangier Island has been arrested, according to Accomack County Sheriff Todd Godwin.

Police did not identify the 14-year-old because the suspect is a minor.

The Accomack County Sheriff's Office received a report at about 5:38 p.m. March 13 that a student at Tangier Combined School had threatened to shoot up the school.

The juvenile was arrested after an investigation, according to Godwin.

Tangier is a town of just more than 700 residents, located on an island in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay.

Tangier Combined School has students in kindergarten through 12th grade, housed in the same building, with a graduating class size typically in the single digits.

The teen was charged with one count of making threats to commit serious bodily harm to persons on school property and with threatening to bomb or burn a building.

The juvenile was taken to the Norfolk Detention Center and was held without bond, according to the Sheriff's Office.
