How well-known is that Eastern Shore town famous for its pony auction?

Enough to make it on Jeopardy!, but not enough, apparently, for any contestants to have heard of it.

On Thursday's episode, this answer came up in round one: This state's Chincoteague Island, off its Eastern Shore, is known as a playground for wild ponies."

The "Jeopardy" answer that stumped contestants on the show that aired on March 15, 2018.

Anyone here would know the answer was Virginia right away, but Thursday's contestants weren't so knowledgable. The only one who dared to ring in came, well, we guess kinda close, guessing North Carolina.

Jeopardy! has of course at least one other link to Virginia's Eastern Shore in former contestant Cindy Stowell, who won more than $103,000 on the show but died days later of cancer. Stowell, who donated all her winnings to the Cancer Research Institute, spent time from many of her summers growing up on the Eastern Shore island whose location escaped all three of Thursday's contestants.
