On Monday, Spotsylvania County deputies did a traffic stop on a car for a minor infraction, according to Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said the driver was wanted on numerous felony warrants out of Fredericksburg. The driver was taken into custody without any problems, officials said.

The passenger in the car, Joseph Conway, 34, of King George County got out of the car and got into a fight with the deputy. Conway then fled the scene.

The deputy and his K-9 dog started to chase Conway. Officials said Conway then pulled a gun out from his clothing and shot several rounds at the deputies and the K-9. He hit the dog at least once. The shooting happened in the 2800 block of Lafayette Blvd.

According to officials the deputies shot back and Conway ran into a neighborhood. Nobody besides the dog was injured in the incident.
