CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) - Police say a miniature pony had to be euthanized after being wounded in an attack by Rottweilers in Virginia.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the attack happened Wednesday in Chesterfield County. Police say when officers arrived at the scene, the dogs were standing over the pony, which was severely wounded.

Police Lt. Peter Climbal says an officer shot one of the dogs, which is expected to survive. Police say charges are expected to be filed against the owner of the dogs.

Police say the pony, which was a family pet, was taken to the vet and euthanized because it was so wounded.
