NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Christopher Newport University released their latest poll for the Virginia gubernatorial race, this time focusing on President Trump's impact.

39 percent of voters say the president is a factor in their choice for governor. The president is also motivating Democrats more than Republicans.

Also playing a factor in the race: Confederate monuments. Overall, 54 percent of voters oppose removing them.

Democrat Ralph Northam wants to take them down, while Republican Ed Gillespie doesn't.

Overall, a CNU poll released Monday showed Northam leading Gillespie by about six percentage points.
