WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WVEC) -- A popular pizza place is coming to Colonial Williamsburg.
Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is one of three new merchants that will be coming to Merchant's Square, the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation announced. It is expected to open in spring of 2018 in the Henry Street Shops, and will feature a 3,800 square-foot restaurant, as well as a 1,000 square-foot patio.
Mellow Mushroom features a menu of gourmet pizza, calzones, salads, and craft beers. Williamsburg was able to bring the restaurant to their city thanks to a $150,000 no-net-loss performance-based incentive grant from the Economic Development Authority.
The local sales and meals tax return on investment to the city for the first three years of the restaurant’s operation is estimated at more than $470,000.
In addition to Mellow Mushroom, the Williamsburg Winery is about to open a new 1,300 square-foot tasting room at 427 Duke of Gloucester Street. Later this fall, Modvintique Interiors will also open a permanent location at the Merchant's Square Henry Street Shops.
Currently, there is only one other Mellow Mushroom in Hampton Roads, located on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News.
