JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- A man was taken into custody and charged with his mother's murder Wednesday morning.
A lockdown at an elementary school was lifted as police continue their investigation into a homicide in the Brookside Haven subdivision.
Officers said they had a suspect in custody for the killing of 64-year-old Edna Webb in the 1800 block of Ferrell Drive. James River Elementary School, which is about a block away, was placed on a precautionary lockdown for a time.
Police were first called to the residence as a welfare check, after Webb did not show up for work. Officers arrived to find the front door locked, but went in through a rear door and found the victim in the kitchen area. She appears to have died from blunt force trauma.
Webb's son, 34-year-old Michael Alan Webb was found at the Happy Shopper on Pocahontas Trail. He was taken into custody and has been charged with second degree murder.
Michael Webb is currently being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bond.
