JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- For the second time in less than 24 hours, a person is dead after being struck by a train.

The James City County Police Department said an Amtrak train hit a woman shortly after 12:30 p.m. Friday in the 5700 block of Richmond Rd. The location isn't far from the Williamsburg Premium Outlets. The woman, identified as 28-year-old Shantay Romana Smith, died on scene.

A witness told police that the woman was wearing headphones as she attempted to cross the railroad tracks.

Jason Abrams, a spokesman for Amtrak, told 13News Now that Train 67 was a Northeast Regional train that was on its way from Boston to Hampton Roads. Abrams said there were 63 passengers on the train and there were no reports of injuries.

Amtrak is cooperating with the investigation.

This incident came after a man was hit by a CSX train Thursday night near the Williamsburg-York County line. That person was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

Both accidents are currently under investigation.
