NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) - Norfolk Police arrested 26-year-old Steven May after he allegedly tried to solicit sex with a child through a Craigslist ad.

According to a search warrant, police got a tip about an ad that was seeking a boy between the ages of 9 and 14 to “play with.” When an undercover officer responded to the post, court documents say May told the officer to download an app called Wickr, which is used to text and send pictures. The officer responded saying she had access to a 12-year-old boy. Then according to court records, May said he would pay $150 to have sex with the boy. He then sent multiple pictures of himself through Wickr.

On June 23 court documents say the undercover police officer and May agreed to meet off of Military Highway so that they could go to a nearby hotel. May said he would be in a black Honda. When he arrived, he sent the undercover officer a text message. Shortly after police arrested him.

Police searched May's car and found $160, a wallet, a bottle of lubricant, and multiple condoms.
Officers also took his cell phone and are now looking through it for evidence.

May is charged with prostitution and obscene communications.
