NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) - A man was shot during a late afternoon robbery in Newport News on Sunday.

According to a police spokesperson, this incident unfolded at around 5:20 p.m. when two men, both armed with handguns, entered the Green City Super Market in the 2000 block of 25th Street intending to rob it.

During the course of the robbery, some sort of physical altercation occurred with the store clerk, and both suspects fired multiple shots striking him. The victim, identified only as a 56-year-old Newport News man, was subsequently transported to a local hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects were described as black males, One suspect wore a yellow shirt, blue jeans and had a black scarf around his face. He appeared to be in his late 20s to early 30s with a slim build. The second suspect wore a red shirt and dark blue jeans and a black ski mask. He appears to be in his mid-30s and had a “thick” build.

Police said the suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
