VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- An inmate at the city's correctional center died Thursday of natural causes, according to the Norfolk Medical Examiner.

66-year-old James Baker was found unresponsive on the bunk in his cell while guards were conducting their 8 a.m. cell inspections.

A nurse at the jail began CPR and was later joined by the correctional center's physician, two more nurses, a physician's assistant and a medical assistant.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced Baker dead less than 45 minutes after he was first found.

The cause of death was hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, according to the Medical Examiner.

No foul play is suspected but the Sheriff's Office will investigate as is required will all custody deaths.

Baker was booked into the correctional center on September 17. He was facing charges of felony Identity Fraud, Felony Distribution of a Schedule I or II Narcotic and Misdemeanor failure to Appear.
