Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group returns to Naval Station Norfolk

Nearly 6,500 sailors from the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group returned to Norfolk after a scheduled deployment.

NAVAL STATION NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) — Nearly 6,500 Sailors from the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG) will return home Sunday.

The HSTCSG deployed on April 11 for a regularly scheduled deployment as part of the ongoing rotation of forward-deployed forces to support maritime security operations and operate in international waters across the globe.

During the eight-month deployment, crews were deployed across the 2nd, 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation.

Returning units of the HSTCSG include the nine squadrons of Carrier Air Wing One, guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy, and guided-missile destroyers of Destroyer Squadron Two Eight, including USS Arleigh Burke and USS Forrest Sherman.

The strike group’s ships and aircraft conducted a variety of missions, including forwarding naval presence, maritime security operations, and theater security cooperation.
