JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- Firefighters said people near the site of a mulch fire should expect to see smoke in the area for several days.

James City County Fire Department crews were at Yard Works, located at 20 Marclay Road, on Saturday.

Emergency dispatchers received a call about a mulch fire there shortly before 6:25 a.m.

Large piles of finished mulch were burning. Firefighters determined the fire was too big to put out entirely. They worked with crews from Yard Works to move unburned mulch and debris away from the immediate area.

It may take a week before the fire is extinguished fully. Yard Works staff members are monitoring the fire until then.

Emergency crews from York County and Williamsburg as well as people from the Virginia Department of Forestry helped in fighting and containing the fire.
