NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A firefighter was taken to a local hospital after battling a fire in a large detached shed Friday morning.

At 3:20 a.m., the Newport News fire department was dispatched to the 600 block of 72nd Street in the Newmarket section of the City.

The shed was in the backyard of a residence, fully involved with fire.

The fire was under control by 3:32 a.m.

The shed suffered significant fire damage, and two houses and two vehicles nearby also suffered from fire, heat and smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

None of the residents reported any injuries, however a firefighter suffered from a burn to the foot.

No further information was released.
