SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A tractor trailer hauling peanuts overturned on the on-ramp to and from the Southwest Suffolk Bypass on Thursday.

At 3:40 p.m. emergency officials were alerted to the single vehicle accident.

The male driver was extricated by Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel, and he needed medical attention. The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Public works crews are on the scene assisting with the ramp closures.

The affected ramps are expected to be closed for several hours as the tractor trailer and debris are removed from the road.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
