WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WVEC) -- Police were at a building in Merchants Square Monday making sure that it was free of explosive devices.
Major Greg Riley with Williamsburg Police Department said officers and members of the fire department were in the 400 block of Duke of Gloucester Street because people were concerned Stephen Powers, 30, may have left something behind at a building where he performed maintenance work last week.
The fire department arrived after a heat sensor alarm in an HVAC system went off.
Powers is charged with Using an Explosive Device and Committing an Act of Terrorism.
The City of Williamsburg said a heat sensor alarm in an HVAC system at the building created the concern, given the incident from last week that centered around Powers.
Emergency workers evacuated the area near the building to investigate and closed the 400 block of Duke of Gloucester Street to pedestrian traffic.
Nothing was found during the search, and people were allowed back in the area just after 5:30 p.m.
