NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A spokeswoman for Norfolk Public Schools (NPS) said a Granby High School had several rounds of live ammunition on him Tuesday.

The ammunition was found during a random search. The student did not have a weapon.

Staff members called Norfolk police to investigate the incident, and a school resource officer filled out a report.

The principal called the student's parents, and officers released him into his parents' custody.

The NPS spokeswoman said appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
