VIRGINIA BEACH, Va (WVEC) -- A woman is behind bars, accused of brutally beating another woman with a collapsible baton.

The attack happened in a 7-Eleven parking lot off Independence Boulevard, according to court documents.

The paperwork said surveillance footage caught Latonia Dawson, 25, hitting the 39-year-old victim in the head several times.

"There was A LOT of blood. I mean, she was covered from mid-section from her head all the way down," said Gary Jackson, the boyfriend of the victim who did not want to be identified.

According to the victim, she has 12 staples in her head and a cut hand. She said the attack happened after a road rage incident.

She told 13News Now that Dawson cut her off on Holland Road. The victim flipped her the middle finger, and Dawson proceeded to follow her to the 7-Eleven lot.

That's when the victim tried to take a picture of Dawson's car, she said. The baton attack followed, she explained.

"See, that's the thing I don't understand," Jackson said. "Why did the girl get out of the car with a baton in her hand? It's not like she went back and got it."

Arrest warrants said Dawson, a mother of two children, is charged with Malicious Wounding and Grand Larceny. Police said she and another woman robbed the victim of her cell phone and keys before driving off.

According to a bail determination sheet, Dawson turned herself in. She's being held without bond and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for June.

Virginia Beach Police currently have a warrant out for Kimberly Shandel Layton, 31, of Chesterfield, Virginia. She's wanted for Grand Larceny.

Anyone one with information should call the police.
