Veteran records are being shifted to a new system for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
VA Secretary David Shulkin announced that the VA will be adopting a next-generation Electronic Health Record system, which is the same system used by the Department of Defense.
Shulkin says adopting this system will result in all patient data residing in one common system and enable seamless care between the departments without manual and electronic exchange and reconciliation of data between two separate systems.
Officials hope this will make sharing information between the organizations easier, cutting down on bureaucracy and speeding up care.
The move should also make records more easily transferable to private-sector hospitals and physicians.
