Woman shot during Virginia Beach parking lot robbery

A woman was shot during a robbery in a Virginia Beach parking lot. Two men robbed her and were able to get away before police arrived.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A woman was shot early Monday morning by two armed robbers in a Virginia Beach parking lot.

Officers found the victim in the 4700 block of Jeanne Street just after 1:30 a.m.

The victim told detectives she was approached in the parking lot by two armed and unknown men who robbed her.

One of the suspects shot the woman during the robbery before they both got away.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One resident said she heard the gunshots. She did not want to be identified.

"I heard a loud pop," the resident said. "I wasn't sure what it was, and then I heard a woman screaming."

She also said the complex has security guards. However, someone has to call them for security to show up.

“I've been here a long time and I don't feel as safe as I used to," the resident said.

Chelsea Frazier lives down the street from where the shooting happened. She said she tried to protect herself when she's outside.

"Just sad and scary,” said Frazier.  "I have pepper spray and you know that seems to make me feel better, but now I don't know, is that going to be enough to stop something like that?"

There is no suspect information available at this time.
