PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- More toll relief is on the way for those who use the Midtown and Downtown Tunnels.
About 2,400 people are currently enrolled in a toll relief program. Now, the parent company of Elizabeth River Crossings is helping out.
Macquarie-Skanska is donating half-a-million dollars. That means instead of a 75-cent discount, enrolled drivers will now receive a $1 discount per crossing.
It brings a rush-hour crossing down to just 95 cents for those enrolled in the program.
The announcement comes as ERC CEO Philip Shucet announced refund checks would be sent to more than 800 customers with excessive fines for failing to pay tolls on time.
