HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WVEC) -- Virginia State Police says it has responded to multiple traffic crashes since a winter storm made its way through the state this weekend.

As of 12 p.m. Sunday, state troopers responded to 686 traffic crashes and helped 1,037 disabled vehicles. A total of 3,257 calls for service have been received.

State police have investigated one fatal crash in Greene County. Icy roads were said to be a factor.

Officials advise residents should avoid travel unless absolutely necessary during a winter event. If you must travel, motorists are encouraged to drive with caution.
