Odds are 70 percent that a low-pressure system heading toward Florida will develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm within the next 48 hours, the National Hurricane Center reported Tuesday morning.

And those odds increase to 80 percent over the next five days as the system continues moving across the Atlantic Ocean.

At 8 a.m., satellite images showed the cloud pattern was about 800 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

Forecasters expect the low-pressure system to move westward to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.
