Ian, now a Category 3 hurricane, will make landfall Wednesday in Florida

Ian expected to bring significant storm surge, flooding, heavy rain, and strong winds to western Florida.

NORFOLK, Va. — Hurricane Ian continues to churn closer to Florida, packing winds of 120 mph. Ian is already bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Southern Florida. For Hampton Roads, the remnant low from Hurricane Ian will bring some wind and a good deal of rain. Look for showers to develop through the day Friday and a wet and windy day Saturday. Two to four inches of rain is possible across the area, with some locations picking up even more. Heavy rainfall could cause fresh-water flooding in some areas.  In addition, several days of onshore winds will likely cause higher-than-normal tides through the weekend.

Hurricane warnings have been posted for the central west coast of Florida. Heavy rain, gusty winds, and dangerous storm surges are likely along the western Florida coast, especially around the Fort Meyers region.

Once Ian makes landfall, the remnants will likely move north and bring moisture through parts of the East Coast. Hampton Roads will see rain and some wind from the remnants of Ian this weekend.
