"It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" turns 50 this year, and farmers across the U.S. and Canada are celebrating... with corn mazes!
Over 90 different corn mazes, custom-designed with the help of the MAiZe, Inc. have been crafted to feature a Peanuts theme. In addition to the mazes, the farms will have showings of "The Great Pumpkin" and have Peanuts-themed artwork on display.
Three of the farms are also participating in the "Peanuts Rocks the Vote" campaign, a partnership with Rock the Vote where fans can visit peanutsrocksthevote.com to vote for Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Sally, Linus, Lucy or Franklin for president. After that, they can register to vote in November's Presidential election (the real one).
Jill Shulz, daughter of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz, said "The Great Pumpkin and cornfield mazes are two of the world's greatest fall traditions, eagerly anticipated by fans every single year, and we're so excited to bring them together for this landmark anniversary."
States from California to New York are participating in the celebration. You can find out if any farms in your area are participating here (hint: some of these mazes are in VA and NC).
One local corn maze is at Green Hand Farm Park in Gloucester!
Also be sure to watch "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" Wednesday, October 19 at 8 p.m. on WVEC ABC 13!
